Plenty of news for you this morning on the developments taking place at Warner Bros. within the DCEU ‘Suicide Squad’ franchise!

First up: ‘Gotham City Sirens’. Almost since the release of ‘Suicide Squad’ have we been hearing rumours about this film. With the news that Margot Robbie had fallen in love with the Harley Quinn character gossip sites were reporting that she had pitched a female fronted DC Comics film to Warner Bros.

The Hollywood Report has now (unofficially) confirmed that ‘Suicide Squad’ director David Ayer will be helming the project. Ayer will also act as a producer on the film alongside Robbie.

Ayer confirmed the news on his Twitter account with the below message:

THR also confirmed that the project is currently being written by upcoming ‘Tomb Raider’ reboot scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet. No release date is set however the report states that Warner Bros. has the project on the fast-track.

Next on the list: ‘Deadshot’! This one came as a bit of a surprise to us but really it is a no-brainer considering the reception to Will Smith in ‘Suicide Squad’. THR reports that Warner Bros. were so excited by Smith’s portrayal that they are now actively developing a potential spin-off vehicle for him. No production schedule is in place as yet.

Lastly: ‘Suicide Squad 2’. The report has little news on the potential sequel to this years $734.5m earning ‘Suicide Squad’ but makes sure to point out that Warner Bros. are still actively developing a followup. The sequel is presumed to be written and directed again by David Ayer so could be on the back burner until after ‘Sirens’ is completed.
