Exciting news today courtesy of The Wrap who bring us some new details on the story of ‘Power Rangers’.
Firstly let’s remind you of the already released synopsis: Saban’s ‘Power Rangers’ follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.
All fans of the franchise know that the Rangers have to face off against a larger than life monster. Well how about one that will give fans of the TV series a nostalgia trip…
Goldar’s molecular essence is scattered around the globe after he was vaporized into a cloud of microscopic gold particles in the opening action sequence on Ancient Earth. Rita Repulsa collects gold to resurrect Goldar… and the Rangers have just 71 hours to stop her. The Zeo Crystal is protected by a force field. Anything that comes in contact with it is vaporized. Goldar was created with a single purpose — to penetrate the force field and steal the crystal.
Of course no self respecting ‘Power Rangers’ franchise would be complete without an appearance by
Putties.
Putties will make an appearance in ‘Power Rangers’ in a scene where Rita Repulsa is trying to steal gold bullion from the Central Bank of Russia. Five Putties made of stone in a later scene challenge the Rangers.
There’s even room for a mention of later TV series villain Lord Zedd:
Rita Repulsa has been trying to deliver the Zeo Crystal to her master, Lord Zedd, for a long time. It would make quite a statement, as he burned half his face off trying to steal it himself.
The article confirms a long rumoured aspect of Elizabeth Banks, Rita Repulsa character as well as an interesting twist in the story of Zordon…
Elizabeth Banks’ Rita Repulsa is 65 million years old and is a former Green Ranger gone rogue. Bryan Cranston’s Zordon was the original Red Ranger millions of years ago, long before being transformed into a state of pure energy.
There’s plenty of food for thought here. With a second trailer expected sometime this month we’re still waiting for full looks at the Zords, Goldar and possibly even Zedd. What are you most excited for in ‘Power Rangers’?
