Pickup a copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #43 at Comixology. In the last two months I have successfully read all forty-two issues of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ leading up to this epic of battle and it’s been quite a journey. IDW have done some amazing things with the ‘TMNT’ property over the past couple of years. Reimagining the origin story to give it an update worthy of a modern audience without losing any of the nostalgia that fans feel for the turtles of the 1980s. Following but updating the canon has brought the turtles to an entirely new audience…
Over recent months ‘Avengers’ and all round Marvel actor Jeremy Renner has been teasing that there was more to come for his character Hawkeye. First appearing as a cameo in ‘Thor’ and then relegated to a hypnotised villain in ‘Avengers’ (or ‘Avengers Assemble’ to us in the UK market) he has yet to appear in a solo film. Questions were raised about a potential appearance for him in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ after the announcement that partner in crime Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) would be appearing. Sadly the appearance did not come to pass with the Russo’s boldly stating…
Pickup a copy from Comixology now. Now seems as good of a time as any to dive in to the world of reviewing ‘Green Arrow’ comics. I freely admit that despite being a comics fan I hadn’t read a single issue of ‘Green Arrow’ until after becoming a fan of the series. Over the last two weeks I’ve read the entire forty issue run of The New 52 ‘Green Arrow’ which culminates in the issue released this week co-written by ‘Arrow’ TV mastermind Andrew Kreisberg. It seems that the ‘Green Arrow’ comics have been searching for a setup which mirrored…
‘Gotham’ actress Jada Pinkett Smith has been doing rounds of press recently to promote the show. On Friday she appeared on the ‘Live! With Kelly and Michael’ show and dropped a bombshell when asked about her return as Fish Mooney for the already announced second season of the hit Fox show. In response to the question Jada replied: ‘I signed for a year and the year’s up,’ Fans of the show know that Mooney has been sidelined in recent episodes after falling out of favour with mob boss Carmine Falcone. Fleeing the city in fear of her own life in the…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw5vcUPyL90 A little controversial but none the less outstanding fan film that has been doing the rounds for the last fortnight is ‘Power/Rangers’ by notable music video director Joseph Kahn and colleague Adi Shankar. The film takes an extremely violent and adult look at a property once though to be purely the stuff of kids TV. The film injects blood, swearing, nudity and everything else that would completely enrage parent groups previously upset by the hit 90s shows glorification of martial arts and wearing cardboard boxes to pretend to be giant fighting robots. Will a reboot film of the franchise…
Directed by Jeannot Szwarc Written by David Odell Starring Helen Slater, Faye Dunaway & Pete O’Toole Released 21st November 1984 Before there was Melissa Benoist (first seen here in costume) and before there was Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck there was Christopher Reeve – sadly missing from this film – and Helen Slater who starred as the original super-cousins. After the release of ‘Superman III’ came this first attempt to broaden the horizons of the franchise and bring in a wider audience to the notion of superheroes. It would be a further three years until Reeve would return to the screen…
CBS have released the first photographs of ‘Glee’ star Melissa Benoist in the role of Kara Zor-El in the new ‘Supergirl’ pilot by the ‘Arrow’ team of Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kriesberg and ‘No Ordinary Family’ producer Ali Adler. Alongside Benoist the show will star ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ alum Chyler Leigh; ‘Ally McBeal’ herself Calista Flockhart as well as ‘Lois & Clark’ star Dean Cain and the original Supergirl Helen Slater. The pilot episode began production this week and will form part of the 2015-2016 pilot season.
‘The Blind Fortune Teller’ continues a run of incredibly strong episodes with another huge DC Comics connection and a brilliant case of the week which may (or most likely not) give us our first experience of Gotham’s very own Joker. Fans have been aware for some time that this episode would feature a guest appearance by the future Grayson family prior to the birth of their son Richard ‘Dick’ (Robin, Nightwing etc…) Grayson. What we weren’t aware of was another character who might be waiting in the wings at Haly’s Circus. Let’s start out with the setting : Haly’s Circus is…
