Marvel Comics has a new publisher in the form of John Nee. Nee, a former executive at DC Comics and co-founder and co-CEO of games and cards company Cryptozoic Entertainment, joins the company to oversee its print and digital comics lines. Nee replaces former publisher Dan Buckley who has recently been promoted to President of Marvel Entertainment. Warner Bros. has confirmed the Shazam release date will be April 5, 2019. In a positive turn of events for the DC Films franchise it is currently the only film due for release on that date. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is beginning to lose steam at the box office. In North America this weekend the gross fell an estimated -52% but was still able to make $11.2M. It now places at no.6 in the top ten box office for the week ending 14th January. Globally the story is a little more positive. With a $1.26B gross it has now become the most profitable films of 2017. In doing so the film overtakes another Disney release, Beauty and the Beast. Wonder Woman won big last night at the 23rd Annual Critics’ Choice Awards. The film won Best Action Movie beating off strong competition from Logan, War for the Planet of The Apes, Thor: Ragnarok and Baby Driver. Star Gal Gadot was also presented with the #SeeHer Award by director Patty Jenkins for challenging female stereotypes in media. Following the announcement that New Mutants will be moving back 10 months to 2019 we have more news on shifting release dates in the X-Men universe. Deadpool 2 was due to be released on June 1, 2018. The film will now hit cinemas on May 18, 2018. Moving the film in to May pits it against Solo: A Star Wars Story which hits cinemas on week later on May 25.
