The latest comments from Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista have begun to cast doubt on the future of the franchise.
Bautista has been vocal about his opposition to the firing of James Gunn following press coverage of tweets the director posted several years ago.
In his latest statement Bautista has said he will “do what Im legally obligated to do” but it seems the actor is truly not happy to return to the franchise without Gunn at the helm.
I will do what Im legally obligated to do but @Guardians without @JamesGunn is not what I signed up for. GOTG w/o @JamesGunn just isn’t GOTG. Its also pretty nauseating to work for someone who’d empower a smear campaign by fascists #cybernazis . That’s just how I feel https://t.co/Ym4FwruVDu

Following these statements the actor stepped up his comments. In an interview with ShortList released yesterday he said he would only return if Marvel use the script originally written by Gunn:
“Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me,” Bautista said. “I’d be doing James a disservice if I didn’t.”
All of this leaves to franchise in a difficult place. Would it still feel the same if Drax were recast?
