Another blow to fans of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this morning. During a conference calls with the press yesterday ABC chief Channing Dungey confirmed the series won’t return until Summer 2019. No further information was given on when the show might return to screens. Summer would suggest we won’t see the 13 episode sixth season until after the 2018/19 broadcast season wraps up. The embargo has lifted. We now know the critics thoughts and feelings on Deadpool 2. Whilst largely positive there are some broad criticisms of the film. Many praise the humour for tackling challenging subjects but feel there’s little to feel different from the first film. It seems the originality of Deadpool feels a little less unique the second time around. At the time of writing Deadpool 2 holds a score of 86% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. It appears that after years of delays Gambit may finally be about to start production. During an interview with Variety at the Deadpool 2 premiere producer Simon Kinberg gave an update on the project: “We have a script that we love — that Channing loves. We’ve met with a bunch of directors in the last couple of weeks, and we’re hoping to actually pick one in the next couple of weeks and shoot the movie maybe the end of this summer.” Though the search for a director is ongoing this is the closest the film has come to starting production. Great news this morning for fans of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as the series is officially renewed. ABC announced that the series will officially return for a sixth season later in the year. But there’s a catch. The sixth season will currently consist of 13 episodes rather than the usual 22. At this stage it is not clear whether this will be the final season. Lucifer star Tom Ellis has pledged to keep fighting for the series future. Following its cancellation by network FOX, fans of the series have been galvanised on social media to campaign for a pickup elsewhere. Discussing the cancellation with TVLine Ellis remained positive about the potential future but isn’t making any promises: “I’ve done press in various parts of the world, and I’m fully aware that this show is much more popular than what it had seemed to be on Fox.” Ellis said. “I’m not surprised about people being angry. Sad news overnight as Superman actress Margot Kidder has passed away at the age of 69. Cinema fans will best remember Kidder for playing Lois Lane in 1978’s Superman: The Movie, in which she starred opposite the late Christopher Reeve. Kidder would go on to reprise the role in three sequels. According to People.com the actress passed away at her home in Livingston, Montana, no cause of death has been released. Nobody will be surprised to learn it was another great weekend at the box office for Avengers: Infinity War. With a current box office haul of $1.606 billion it is now the highest grossing superhero movie of all time. That title was previously held by the first of the Avengers movies with $1.519 billion. Overall Infinity War is the fifth highest grossing movie of all time. This weekend, the Russo Brothers release brought in a further $61.8m at the North American box office and made $281m internationally. Rumours over the weekend point to the long awaited Man of Steel sequel heading closer to production. A report from El Fanboy Podcast points to insiders at Warner Bros. stating that the studio is looking for a 2020 release. The original Man of Steel directed by Zack Snyder was released in 2013.
