Last week we heard a rumour that Len Wiseman would be stepping in to direct the pilot of Swamp Thing taking over the reigns from James Wan. Wan, also executive producing the series, has decided to take a step back from directing the series opener. Splash Report has learnt that Wiseman is now fully signed up to shoot the pilot when production kicks off later this year. Some very interesting news for anyone anticipating the new Swamp Thing series as producer and writer Gary Dauberman has confirmed the series is aiming for a “hard R-rating”. In an interview with Slash Film the executive producer of the series says: “We always set out to make Swamp Thing as hard R as we could and go graphic with the violence, with the adult themes, and make it as scary as possible. We really took our inspiration from the Alan Moore run in Swamp Thing.” Dauberman also went on to discuss the look of the character for when the series finally hits our screens: “Swamp Thing himself looks…

STX Film Peppermint finally dropped in North America last week. Despite middling reviews the film grossed a healthy $13.26M over the course of the weekend. According to BoxOfficeMojo that gross puts the film squarely between the openings of the original John Wick ($14.4M) and Death Wish ($13M). The film was given a B+ Cinemascore by audiences over the weekend. The film has already begun its international roll out. It arrives here in the UK on September 21. So far Peppermint has opened in 17 territories and grossed around $1.4M over the weekend. Last week we brought you the news of Mission Impossible: Fallout opening to big numbers in China . In its second week in the Middle Kingdom the movie grossed a further $37M for a total of $137.7M in the territory. That figure now means that Fallout is the highest grossing entry to the Mission Impossible franchise at the worldwide box office. Currently Fallout has grossed $726.6M worldwide from $212.1M domestic and $514.5M foreign. Fallout is also expected to top Mission: Impossible II’s$215.4M total at the North American box office by the end of the week. 20th Century Fox has released the first clip from Shane Black’s The Predator. The clip features the new Ultimate Predator in action for the first time. From what we see here the character looks pretty formidable! The first reviews of the movie have arrived and the picture is fairly positive. Yesterday Sony released the new Spider-Man game on the PS4. In a last marketing push Sony Pictures released a new sneak peak of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse featuring actors Jake Johnson (New Girl) and Shameik Moore (The Get Down). The Darth Maul cameo came as a huge surprise to audiences who were duped in to expecting a Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine appearance.
