Hideo Kojima announced this week via the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 Broadcast some new faces to his next genre-defining game PHYSINT. After months of intense fan speculation that pointed toward actors like Robert Pattinson or Eddie Redmayne, Bill Skarsgård was officially revealed as the lead protagonist for PHYSINT.
Joining Skarsgård is Charlee Fraser (Mad Max: Furiosa), with Kojima debuting new key art featuring stylised portrait photos he personally shot during initial costume fittings, body scans, and camera tests earlier in the year. The duo joins a previously confirmed ensemble that includes Don Lee (Train to Busan) and Minami Hamabe (Godzilla Minus One).

The timing of the cast couldn’t be better as PHYSINT was initially announced under the PlayStation banner as a spiritual return to Kojima’s action-espionage roots. However, a behind-the-scenes rupture led Sony to walk away from the project, forcing Kojima Productions to quietly find a new home before Xbox stepped in.
According to reports surrounding the split, Sony’s decision to cancel its deal with Kojima stemmed from tighter financial discipline as PHYSINT’s massive scope—and its intent to bridge AAA gaming with movie-level production—pushed budget estimates far beyond PlayStation’s risk threshold. It’s been said that Sony reportedly pushed for strict platform exclusivity and extended launch windows, while Kojima sought wider multi-platform reach (including aggressive PC alignment).
Microsoft—already in business with Kojima Productions on the cloud-powered horror title OD—seized this incredible opportunity. Under Gaming CEO Asha Sharma, Xbox negotiated to acquire the publishing rights for PHYSINT, expanding the alliance to include future film and TV adaptations.
