During its Showcase panel at Anime Expo, Crunchyroll excited fans by unveiling the very first set of visuals for its upcoming anime series based on Sucker Punch Productions’ critically acclaimed video game, Ghost of Tsushima, and its multiplayer expansion, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.
Crunchyroll, which previously secured exclusive global streaming rights for the series, confirmed the anime is slated to premiere sometime in 2027.

The panel also dropped news regarding the creative team steering this adaptation. Renowned artist Takashi Okazaki (known for Batman Ninja and Afro Samurai) has officially signed on as the series’ character designer, bringing his distinct visual style to the world of Tsushima. While Takanobu Mizuno (known for Star Wars: Visions episode “The Duel”) will be taking on the directing job.
The project will be animated by acclaimed animation studio Kamikaze Douga with Gen Urobuchi and Renji Oki will be handling Story Composition and Script duties.
The anime adaptation builds upon the hit gaming franchise. The original Ghost of Tsushima game debuted on the PlayStation 4 in July 2020, later expanding to PlayStation 5 and PC, alongside its coop multiplayer mode, Legends towards the end of 2020. The franchise recently saw the launch of its highly anticipated sequel, Ghost of Yōtei, in October last year.
Sucker Punch’s original historical epic is set in 1274 during the Mongol invasion of Tsushima Island. The story follows a surviving samurai who must abandon his traditions to forge an unconventional and lethal way of fighting—the way of the Ghost—to wage a one-man war for the freedom of Japan.
With Kamikaze Douga’s distinct animation style and Gen Urobuchi’s reputation for dark, gripping storytelling, the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2027 in the anime world.
