The long weekend starts now on both sides of the Atlantic and whilst the UK might be facing a heatwave, our cousins over in the States are flocking to cinemas for Disney and Lucasfilms The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Going into the weekend the film, the first Star Wars theatrical release in 7 years, is forecasting around $80M domestic and a similar figure in international markets. But now our first indications are that the film may outperform expectations in its home market.
According to Deadline, after beginning screenings at 2pm across the US, the film has taken $12M in Thursday previews. That figure falls slightly behind the $14.1M made by Solo: A Star Wars Story back in 2018 before going on to gross $84.4M across the the three-day weekend and $103M for the full four-day Memorial Day opening.

No “homework” is required to understand or enjoy Jon Favreau’s fun, fast paced intergalactic extravaganza of droids, monsters and aliens, story-wise, it stands strongly on it’s own two legs, adjacent to the Disney+ streaming show”.
