It’s not just a whole host of John Wick news which Lionsgate has confirmed tonight at CinemaCon. The studio has also used their presentation at the industry event to confirm new details on the upcoming sixth film in the blockbuster The Hunger Games franchise.
Oscar-nominated screenwriter Billy Ray is returning to the franchise to adapt Suzanne Collins’ latest prequel. Ray previously adapted the first Hunger Games film back in 2012. As was previously announced, the studio has set a global release date of November 20, 2026.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is being directed by franchise mainstay Francis Lawrence and produced by Color Force’s Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. Cameron MacConomy will executive produce. Speaking on stage Lawrence confirmed that cameras are set to roll on Sunrise on the Reaping from July this year.
Sunrise on the Reaping is set 24 years before that trio of Lawrence films in the world of Panem, commencing on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. Those games are an important event in the canon as the victor was Haymitch Abernathy, the only winner from District 12 before Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark’s tie win.
