If like us you haven’t recovered from the news that Buffy the Vampire Slayer may be returning to our screens. Then also just like us we’re sure you’ve been desperately checking your feeds for any updates… well today is our lucky day.
Whilst appearing on Access Hollywood, Sarah Michelle Gellar gave a small update on the progress of the series. Speaking about working with Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao (The Eternals), Gellar once again confirmed their first conversation about resurrecting Buffy Summers took place three or four years ago:
About three or four years ago Chloe Zhao contacted me and said “it’s my dream to do Buffy” and I was like oh that’s great, I wish you all the best and she’s like “no I want to do it with you”.
After touching on how the series came to be Gellar dropped the smallest of hints that project has now moved beyond the writing stage:
After the last three year of us sort of brainstorming and figuring out what it will be we’re moving forward this Summer.
As to what “moving forward” specifically means is anyone’s guess. But it certainly feels like this is Gellar giving us our first confirmation as to when she’ll be picking up Mr. Pointy once more.

If Buffy 2.0 is really gearing up to go in front of the cameras this Summer then we fully expect casting news to begin rolling in soon. As to which of the surviving Sunnydale High students might return it may not be long until we find out.
Initially beginning in 1997 as a mid-season replacement, Buffy ran for five seasons on The WB before jumping ship for its final two-seasons to air on UPN. The series also spawned the hugely successful spin-off series Angel making its star David Boreanaz a household name in the process. The original series also starred Alyson Hannigan, Charisma Carpenter, James Marsters, Anthony Stewart Head and Nicholas Brendan.
