Review
Harley Quinn makes a spectacular comeback in the latest issue of her latest DC comic run, delivering a mix of humour and high-octane action that fans have eagerly anticipated. Tini Howard’s sharp script, complemented by Natacha Bustos’s dynamic art and Nick Filardi’s vibrant colours, brings Harley Quinn’s latest escapade to life, which makes for another thrilling adventure, making it worth picking up a copy and checking out.
After facing a string of rejections from various DC villains for additional work, Harley Quinn was unexpectedly hired by Mr. Freeze. In this new role, she finds herself not just part of another caper, but as a mentor to two new recruits, diving into the unexpected depths of guiding and shaping these newbies in the art of villainy. Surprisingly, she excels in this new role, leveraging her unique blend of teaching skills, educational background, and criminal expertise.
What stands out is Harley’s self-discovery of her natural talent as a teacher. She not only embraces this role, but excels in it, much to her own astonishment. The narrative cleverly uses Mr Freeze’s chilly persona as fodder for an array of ‘cold’ puns, with Harley seizing every opportunity to playfully mock his icy demeanour. This use of humour and wordplay is something we, as fans, have come to know and love, as it adds a layer of entertainment to the story, making it a fun read.
True to Harley’s character, she approaches teaching with her own distinctive flair and philosophy. She’s determined to impart skills she values, leading to a series of humorous and chaotic mishaps. This storyline is a prime example of Harley’s ability to shine within a team, highlighting her evolution from a mere sidekick to a complex, standalone character. Her unique traits – humour, flair, wit, chaos – make this issue and the series as a whole a delightful read, reminiscent of the best Saturday morning cartoons.
Verdict
To conclude, this issue skillfully weaves in elements from previous stories, adding depth and continuity. And, as always, the narrative promises even more surprises and twists, keeping readers eagerly anticipating what’s next. This issue not only showcases Harley Quinn’s growth as a character but also reinforces her status as an indispensable icon in the comic book world.
