James Gunn’s DCU is really beginning to take shape. Overnight it’s been confirmed that three more legendary DC Comics’ characters have been added to the roster set to appear in 2025’s Superman: Legacy.
Joining the recently announced David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will be Isabela Merced who will play Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific and Nathan Fillion as the Guy Gardner incarnation of Green Lantern. The news, first broken by Vanity Fair, also confirms the film is set to begin shooting in January 2024.
Merced is perhaps best known for playing the besieged drug cartel daughter in Sicario: Day of the Soldado and the ever-exploring title character in Dora and the Lost City of Gold. It is not yet known whether she will portray Shayera Hol version of the character, an alien from the planet Thanegar, or a mix of the character’s human incarnations, Kendra Saunders and Shiera Sanders Hall. Hawkgirl’s counterpart, Hawkman, was seen on screen laster year in Black Adam where he was played by Aldis Hodge.
Gathegi is known to fans as the double-dealing vampire Laurent in the Twilight films and the ever-evolving Darwin in X-Men: First Class. He takes on the role of Mister Terrific, a.k.a. Michael Holt, who is not only a skilled combatant but one of the world’s most brilliant inventors and tacticians, orbited by the floating T-Sphere weapons he designed. Among his superpowers is his otherworldly intellect. Arrowverse fans will know the character well as he appeared in seasons 4-8 of Arrow where he was played by Echo Kellum.
Fillion needs little introduction to comic book fans. A long-time collaborator of James Gunn, he rose to fame in Joss Whedon’s short-lived Firefly before headlining the long-running Castle procedural series. On the big screen Fillion is no stranger to the DC Universe having appeared in Gunns The Suicide Squad. In fact, this won’t even be his first time playing a Green Lantern. Fillion provided the voice of Hal Jordan in Green Lantern/Hal Jordan in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Justice League: Doom, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox and Justice League: Throne of Atlantis and The Death of Superman.
Superman: Legacy is currently eyeing a July 11, 2025 release date.
