Today is Godzilla Day! Which means that today is the day that we celebrate the King of the Monsters in all of his forms. Whether you’re watching the original Toho films, reading the various comics, or watching the explosive Hollywood blockbusters, today is about a legend who took the world by storm, and who’s legacy spans 68 years. Now, to celebrate Godzilla’s special day Toho took to social media to announce something rather special… A brand new Godzilla film will be releasing next year!
2023 is looking to be a cracking year for film, but Toho have saved this new movie for a very special occasion. That’s right, the 30th live action Godzilla film from Toho will be released on November 3rd, 2023- Godzilla’s 69th Anniversary.
Check out Toho’s announcement below:
What else do we know? Well, not that much. Right now, all we know is that Lupin III: The First director Takashi Yamazaki will be directing the new film. So for now all we can really do is speculate, and the small teaser actually offers a lot…
Toho’s most recent Godzilla movie was released in 2016. Yes, that long ago. Which one was it? That would be the insanely popular Shin Godzilla that really reinvented the character. Shin Godzilla introduced some weird concepts regarding our favourite Kaiju. The most notable oddity was certainly his tail which, by the end of the movie, actually began spawning humanoid skeletons- did we receive any answers about that? Of course not. However, the huge “G” in this teaser is actually somewhat reminiscent of the strange tail the Kaiju had in Shin Godzilla…
Could the 30th live action movie revisit Godzilla’s strangest, and arguably his strongest form yet? We may not have the answers just yet but Godzilla Day isn’t over just yet.
What do you think? Let us know in the comments and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more Godzilla goodness.
