But Renee can’t do it alone – in order for her plan to work, everyone from the topmost officials all the way down to the most fresh-faced new officers must contend with the harsh realities of being a symbol of law and order in a city of super-powered saviours and superhuman lawlessness.
DC is proud to present GCPD: The Blue Wall by the stellar team of Academy Award-winning writer John Ridley and artist Stefano Raffaele. This six-part miniseries is a thought-provoking and riveting story of everyday people trying to do good in the midst of a flawed system.
No one said protecting a city like Gotham would be easy.
Review
In this issue we see the darkness of Gotham through different eyes as we are taken on a journey of discovery with the GCPD with new commissioner Renee Montoya with the task of rebuilding not only her department but also rebuilding the confidence the general public of Gotham have in the police.
The comic also follows a group of young police graduates as they embark on their career in the force and stationed in various parts of Gotham with some posts more favoured than others, one of the group, Park, gets posted to the region of Little Tokyo which from the outset seems a cushy little number but you kind of get the idea that this isn’t going to be a cosy ride. As the book unfolds we have a story that brings you plenty of self doubt and soul searching, a deep introduction to the life of the GCPD.
I haven’t read alot of John Ridley’s so this was a good introduction into his style and I enjoyed the book throughout, it’s already looking like it will be an intense ride I’m kind of getting vibes from an American cop show The Shield but based in Gotham and if it transpires to be that then I am fastened in and ready for the ride.
The illustrations from the team of Stefano Raffaele, and Reiko Murakami provide the heartbeat of the story bringing to life each word and bringing a raw emotion to the story adding more dimension to the overall book.
Verdict
A bit different from your normal Gotham story but so far I am definitely sold, I look forward to see what is coming next in issue #2.
