Today delivered more news from the world of The Witcher. Now, while we do have a long wait until Geralt returns to our screens, we do have something to look forward to before season 3 airs. At Netflix’s Tudum event, the streaming service announced that the prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin will arrive on Netflix on Christmas Day.
They also revealed that Academy Award-nominated actress Minnie Driver will be joining the cast. However, while her role is being kept well under wraps, it was released that her role will be “pivotal” in connecting Blood Origin to the main Witcher series.
Sophia Brown, who will be playing Éile, and Laurence O’Fuarain, who will play Fjall, joined in on the fun at the event and shared some interesting details about their characters. Éile will carry an instrument that is based on the Scandinavian stringed instrument the Nyckelharpa. Declan de Barra, the show’s creator, also wrote four songs alongside composer Bear McCreary. How cool is that?
In addition to that, O’Fuarain shared that Fjall has a tattoo on his back that says, in Elvish, “As you carried me, now I shall carry you into every battle, every brawl, to slay those who will meet us on the field. So that you may live as long as I hold breath.” It’s safe to assume that throughout the series we’ll learn the significance and meaning behind this emotionally weighted tattoo.
Set 1200 years before the The Witcher, the six-episode Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time – the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “Conjunction of the Spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.
The Witcher: Blood Origin will arrive exclusively on Netflix on December 25th, 2022. You won’t want to miss this gripping origin story that will finally reveal the secrets behind the Witchers. We cannot wait. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more. With a few months to go, a brand new trailer may be on the horizon. Only time will tell.
