We have an absolute treat for you anime fans out there. To celebrate the upcoming conclusion to the fan-favourite sports anime from the beloved studio Kyoto Animation (A Silent Voice, Violet Evargarden), Anime Limited have announced a special double bill event where fans can watch both Free! The Final Stroke films. There is simply no better way to cool off than with a few hours by the pool, but the stakes could not be higher. From August 31st, fans will be able to dive straight into the double-bill and witness the end of a truly beloved show.

Following on from the events of the third season Free! Dive to the Future, Haruka Nanase has finally made it to Sydney, Australia to swim on the global stage – but he’ll have to face more than just fierce rivals in the pool. Now in university, Haruka and friends are confronted with the uncertainties of approaching adulthood, and what it really means to leave adolescence behind. Told across two feature films, Free! The Final Stroke is the final story in the Free! story that started back in 2013 with Free! Iwatobi Swim Club, a series following the lives of a high school swimming club.

Since its initial release almost 10 years ago (wow), the series has spawned two subsequent seasons, Free! Eternal Summer and Free! – Dive to the Future, as well as a number of feature films. So what better way to wave goodbye to all of the characters you’ve grown to love than with a long trip to the cinema.

    Synopsis:

Haruka Nanase is finally headed to swim on the new world stage in none other than Sydney, Australia. Taking a short break before leaving, he is reunited with the swimmers he met through his tournaments in Japan – and each of them is motivated for the Sydney Games where the reigning champion, Albert Wahlander, awaits them.

How will they feel rubbing shoulders with the best swimmers in the world? As they ask themselves about the adult world that awaits them outside the pool, their final fierce battle against the water begins!

Free! The Final Stroke the First Volume and Free! The Final Stroke the Second Volume will be shown as a double bill event in selected cinemas from 31st August 2022 in Japanese with English subtitles.
