We were well and truly treated yesterday after a brand new trailer dropped for Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey, the next installment in the Predator franchise. The trailer dives into the film’s story, as well as what we can expect in general. Prey seems to be aiming towards telling a refreshing story that will change the hunter and the hunted narrative. Even though the human cast are at a technological disadvantage, it’s safe to say that this new Predator will be in for a rude awakening…
Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, Prey follows a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.
The trailer wasn’t the only exciting reveal. Talking with ComicBook.com, Trachtenberg and producer Jhane Myers revealed something truly brilliant. When audiences tune in to watch Prey, there will be an option to watch the film completely dubbed in the Comanche language with subtitles.
“We do have like Comanche throughout the film, but when you first choose to watch the film, this will be the first time that the Comanche language, and I’m Comanche, by the way, this will be the first time that our language is in a full dub and also subtitled for the whole film,” Myers confirmed.
How incredible is that? It was always been known that this production has strived towards maintaining some sense of historical accuracy… Despite there being a Predator on the loose. However, this level of dedication takes Prey to an entirely new level, and we cannot wait.
The Predator will be on the hunt exclusively on Hulu and Disney+ from August 5th.
Prey is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, written by Patrick Aison. The prequel will be produced by John Davis and Jhane Myers, with Lawrence Gordon, Marty Ewing, James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas and Marc Toberoff serving as executive producers.
