Work is well underway on the upcoming third season of HBO Max’s animated series Harley Quinn. We recently heard that the first mix of audio had been completed for the show as work continues on the animation. But now we’re hearing that the team has another show up their sleeves…
During a Warner Bros. Animation hosted panel, Reimagining of Iconic Characters for an Adult Audience, at the SXSW festival, executive producer and co-creator Patrick Schumacker made the surprise announcement that a spin-off is in development.
The creative team behind the hit show is currently developing a Cheers style spin-off with the working title of Noonan’s. That name will ring bells with fans of Harley Quinn as its the name of the bar which calls itself home to a number of the DC Universe’s biggest criminals. In this new spin-off the bar has seemingly been taken over by none other than Poison Ivy’s ex-fiance Kite-Man!
“He tries to run the bar by himself but it doesn’t turn out so easy,” Schumacker revealed to the panel guests. “We have Harley and Ivy appear in the first episode, but after that we have with different goons and villains appearing every episode like Lex Luthor and Bane. It will be kind of like ‘Cheers’ for supervillains.”
Revealing a few upcoming details on the third season of Harley Quinn, Schumacker confirmed that James Gunn would appear in an episode dealing with King Shark’s appearance in The Suicide Squad. Another episode would heavily homage Batman: The Animated Series and will utilise a number of backgrounds from the series itself.
Harley Quinn stars Kaley Cuoco as the voice of Harley, and she’ll be joined by Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Ron Funches, JB Smoove, Jason Alexander, Wanda Sykes, Giancarlo Esposito, Natalie Morales, Jim Rash, Diedrich Bader, Tony Hale and Chris Meloni.
Seasons one and two are available to stream now via HBO Max in the US, here in the UK you can pick up both season on digital platforms.
