It’s fair to say the last few weeks have been a rollercoaster for Star Trek fans. Not only have all of the current series been renewed for new seasons, but now we have news on more future series that are headed to the small screen.
Earlier today we brought you the latest updates on the long-gestating Star Trek: Section 31 series which is set to star Michelle Yeoh. Now it’s the turn of another previously rumoured series, Starfleet Academy, to take the limelight.
Officially titled Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Deadline is currently reporting that Absentia co-creator Gaia Violo is currently penning a version of the show. Originally devised by franchise executive producer Alex Kurtzman, the series is set to focus on the titular academy where all our favourite Trek characters have studied.
The legendary San Francisco location has been visited by almost every small and big screen incarnation of the franchise.
Speaking during the Paramount+ TCA presentation, Kurtzman revealed “there is another one” in regards to Trek series’ currently in development but stated that, for now, he wants to remain “tight lipped” on the details.
“We have to think several years out,” Kurtzman said. “We’re thinking about knowing we’ll want new shows on the air two or three years from now so we have to start planning those now. There’s a bunch of things in development now that are starting to take shape and we’re super excited about it.”
Paramount+ exec Nicole Clemens teased even more shows in the Star Trek universe. “I think we have some fantastic offerings in our slate and I think you may see a few more very curated editions coming,” she said.
