Last night the team from Paramount+ held their presentation at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour. Whilst the highlight of the presentation was the debut of a new poster for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, there was also some new on another, long-rumoured Trek series.
We’ve been hearing about plans for a Section 31 series, set to star the returning Michelle Yeoh, since 2018. It seemed that the show was stuck in development hell with no solid information on a series order. But now, as per Variety, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel.
“Yes, we are still in development on ‘Section 31,’ so there will be more news on that soon,” Nicole Clemens, president of original scripted series at Paramount Plus, told reporters during an executive session alongside chief programming officer Tanya Giles at the Television Critics Association’s press tour Tuesday. “And two, the question about ‘critical mass’ on ‘Star Trek,’ I think we have some fantastic offerings in our always on slate.”
That comment of “critical mass” comes as the streamer touts what it is calling the Year of Star Trek, with new episodes airing every week across 2022.
The Star Trek: Discovery spin-off brings Yeoh back as the fan-favourite Philippa Georgiou, who was last seen returning to the present day, leaving Michael (Sonequa Martin-Green) in the future with the rest of the U.S.S. Discovery crew.
We’ll keep you posted on future developments…
