The cast of Tim Burton’s Addams Family sequel, Wednesday, has gained a new cast member in Game of Thrones‘ Gwendoline Christie. Deadline has confirmed that the former Brienne of Tarth will play the principal of Nevermore Academy, Larissa Weems.
Not much is known about the character at this time. It’s understood Weems has issues with former classmate Morticia Addams, portrayed here by Catherine Zeta-Jones. It seems likely that Weems will be exacting her revenge on Morticia’s daughter, the titular Wednesday Addams.
Wednesday will be played by Jenna Ortega and will be joined by Luis Guzmán as her father, Gomez Addams.
An official synopsis for the series reads:
“The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
Netflix has assembled an impressive creative team to work behind-the-scenes with Burton. Contributors include Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The team also includes The Addams Family franchise producers Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi, and Gail Berman, alongside Kayla Alpert (Code Black) and Jonathan Glickman (The Addams Family 2).
