This summer… they will rise!
For the glory of Merlin, Trollhunters fans are finally getting what they have been waiting for! Netflix have released more content and information about their anticipated upcoming animated feature film Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans.
Trollhunters is a Netflix original animated series produced by Guillermo Del Toro that aired on December 23rd 2016 and ended on May 25th 2018, with three seasons in total and two spin-off series’, 3Below (December 2018 – July 2019) and Wizards (August 7th 2020). These are all part of an interwoven storyline in the fictional town of Arcadia, and all the magical and mysterious things that happen here, ranging from evil world-ending trolls to socially awkward teenage aliens.
Trollhunters focuses on the character Jim Lake Jr who, thanks to a magical amulet, becomes the Trollhunter, and alongside his friends becomes a great hero and defender of both humans and trolls alike. 3Below is about two side characters introduced in season three of Trollhunters, Aja and Krel, who are aliens on the run from their planet which has been taken over by a mad tyrant. Lastly, Wizards is about a young wizard apprentice, Douxie, and his time-travelling adventure with previously established characters!
Titled Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, almost nothing up until now has been released about the feature film that all of these series’ have been building up to, except the title and a 2021 release. But, we finally have a teaser trailer! At 30 seconds long, this teaser gives us a voice-over of Blinky, a troll and mentor to Jim Lake Jr voiced by Kelsey Grammer.
We hear Blinky say “something is coming” and the next thing we see is a ginormous unidentified creature rising from the ocean. We then see multiple shots of different characters before being shown a group shot of every protagonist across the three series’, ready to fight together. It is after this that Netflix finally shows us the release date; July 21st.
Looks like we won’t want to miss this animated event of a movie… will this bring the Tales of Arcadia to its closing chapter? We will just have to wait and see!
