Do you remember the three important rules when caring for a Mogwai? Don’t let them get wet. Keep them away from light. And never, ever feed them after midnight. No matter how many times the rules are repeated, something always happens and suddenly we have a Gremlin infestation on our hands. We have two films to prove it and now, an animated series from Warner Bros and Amblin.
That’s right. The Gremlins will be making their long awaited comeback in the form an animated series called Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. Set in 1920s Shangai, the series will follow Sam Wing who becomes the Chinatown shopkeeper from the original film. In the 10-episode show, 10-year-old Sam meets a young Mogwai called Gizmo. With the help of a street thief named Elle, the group take a periolous journey through China to return Gizmo to his family. Along the way, they’ll encounter various different monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore while being ruthlessly hunted by a power-hungry industrialist and his army of Gremlins.
Gremlins was first released in 1984, followed by A New Batch in 1990.
We got some incredibly exciting news this week which finally revealed who would be joining the series. Thanks to Variety, we now have an excellent rundown of the cast and characters.
Sam Wing will be voiced by Izaac Wang. Sam’s mother, Fong Wing, will be voiced by The Mandalorian‘s Ming-Na Wen. Sam’s father, Hon Wing, will be voiced by Jurassic Park‘s BD Wong.
