HBO Max’s planned GCPD series is apparently searching for a new showrunner as The Hollywood Reporter claims that Terence Winter has exited the The Batman spin-off. Time to use the Bat-signal to search for a replacement.
According to the trade, Winter has left development on the series amidst creative differences with director Matt Reeves. Reeves has been developing the series as a direct tie-in to his 2022 movie. Reeves is currently writing the series which the Boardwalk Empire producer was set to produce.
Little is known about the series at this stage. It is expected to take inspiration from the critically acclaimed Gotham Central run from DC Comics with a story set to take place during Batman’s first year in Gotham. 2022’s The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, takes place in his second year of action placing it after this series.
