The cast and crew of Netflix’s hit fantasy series The Witcher recently got back to work on season 2. The series had to pause production due to Coronavirus but has now safely continued filming on its second batch of episodes.
But according to Deadline the second season has had to make one notable change. The central role of Eskel will now be portrayed by Victoria actor Basil Eidenbenz.
Three weeks before the series had to stop filming it was announced that Thue Ersted Rasmussen would be taking on the role. But with travel restrictions and filming delays abound, Rasmussen has unfortunately had to drop out of the production.
It is understood that Rasmussen had filmed scenes back in February and March. Those will now be reshot with Eidenbenz in the role.
In a note posted to fans on social media, Rasmussen called the decision to exit The Witcher “heartbreaking,” adding, “but I mostly feel happy and grateful for the days I got to spend on the set earlier this year.”
The Witcher stars Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season one is available to stream now on Netflix.
