Sad news coming from camp Netflix this morning as Deadline reports the streaming giant has swung the axe on a cult sci-fi series.
According to a new report, Netflix quietly cancelled Altered Carbon back in April. The cancellation is blamed on the “standard viewership vs. cost renewal review process.”
In short, it’s not the current global pandemic which has ended the series but instead low viewership. Netflix looks at many of its original series to balance its outgoings against the number of viewers tuning in. For Altered Carbon those numbers just weren’t enough.
Altered Carbon was based on the 2002 novel of the same name by Richard K. Morgan. Series one started Suicide Squad star Joel Kinnaman whilst season 2 was fronted by Captain America: The Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie.
