A very interesting rumour coming from Variety today as the trade reports on a new series in development at The CW.
According to their insider info, the network is developing an updated version of the classic cartoon series Powerpuff Girls. The new version however is said to be a live-action rather than animated take on Blossom, Buttercup and Bubbles.
The original cartoon, created by Craig McCracken, ran on Cartoon Network for 78 episodes between 1998 and 2005. Powerpuff Girls was also the last Hanna-Barbera produced cartoon before Warner Bros. Animation absorbed the studio in 2001.
It will come as no surprise that the series is currently being developed under the watchful eye of Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti. Berlanti is attached as producer alongside Sarah Schechter, and David Madden.
Oscar-winning screenwriter of Juno, Diablo Cody, will executive produce the series with Heather Regnier.
