Tomorrow night, The Flash begins its final season in the US with the premiere of season 9. In a new interview with The Nerds of Conor showrunner Eric Wallace has discussed his plans to use characters from another, recently cancelled CW series, before Grant Gustin hangs up his gold boots.
Before plans for the final season landed on a count of 13 episodes, Wallace had planned to fold in the cast of Legends of Tomorrow to give them a proper send off following that series’ cancellation.
“I had hoped that we’d had 20 episodes, but my original concept was to have at least one — if not a two parter — that wrapped up Legends of Tomorrow”says Wallace, confirming plans originally called for a longer final run. “There will be a little crossover we get them back, we get them out of time jail, all these good things, Booster Gold, etc, etc. When we found out we only have 13 episodes, that was no longer possible.”
The showrunner would go on to confirm that characters from Legends will still make an appearance in the final season as work continues on crafting the series finale.
“We’re still writing a series finale so you never know what could happen at the very end. Hope does spring eternal, but I just want to put that over. All the Legends at least are all going to appear in an episode.” So at least we can look forward to another appearance for Sara (Caity Lotz) and the crew of the Waverider.
Legends of Tomorrow ran for 7 seasons on The CW before coming to an abrupt end. The series was cancelled alongside the planned 4th season of Batwoman with neither series given the chance to wrap up its storytelling with a definitive ending.
The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Brandon McKnight as Chester P. Runk and Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton. The series returns on February 8, 2023.
