Disney has ended months of speculation by confirming that it’s live-action remake of Mulan WILL make it’s debut on Disney+.
The film, which has a production budget in the region of $200m, will arrive on Disney+ on September 4. But the film’s release comes as a price. Fans will need both a Disney+ subscription and will also need to pay a $29.99 fee in order to watch the movie.
Disney has confirmed that fee is a one off and that Mulan will remain on subscribers accounts until such time as they cancel Disney+.
Chief executive Bob Chapek confirmed the $29.99 “premiere access” deal will be in effect in all countries where Disney+ is available. In countries where the streaming service has yet to launch Mulan will still have a theatrical release.
The move comes as the wider Disney company reported losses of $4.7bn due to the global pandemic with theme parks closed cross the globe. That figure stands in stark contract to a profit of $1.8bn in the same period last year.
