Yesterday, we brought you the news that Dark Horse Comics is bringing a new Cyberpunk 2077 inspired comic book series to stores. Today it’s the turn of Netflix to get in on the action.
Titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the series is planned to run for 10 episodes and will also be set in Night City. The series will center on a different protagonist, described as an unnamed street kid who “chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.”
“We are so excited to finally reveal that we are working on an anime in the Cyberpunk world,” said Adam Badowski, Cyberpunk 2077 game director in a statement. “We’ve devoured just about all the cyberpunk fiction there is to watch, read, and play; it’s a genre that leaves so much room for creativity, and has had such a strong influence on us. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is our love letter to cyberpunk as a whole, and to stories told in animated form.”
Studio Trigger has been tapped as the series’ animation studio with game developer CD Projekt Red acting as producer. Kill La Kill‘s Hiroyuki Imaishi is directing the series.
The release of the Cyberpunk 2077 game was recently delayed until November 2020 to allow the developer to polish the huge, open-world game.
