It’s no secret that 2017’s Power Rangers (read our 6.5/10 review here) didn’t set the box office alight. Produced on a budget of around $100m, the film grossed a disappointing $142m at the worldwide box office and, sadly, a sequel never moved forwards.
In the years following that film the franchise has moved homes from Saban, original creators of the American franchise, to toy company Hasbro. Now The Hollywood Reporter reports that Habsro and producing partners Paramount Pictures are deep in development on a new version of the franchise.
The company are currently said to be in talks with Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F—ing World) with a view to directing with Patrick Burleigh (Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway) penning the current version of the script.
Whilst plot details are, obviously, being kept under wraps it is said the film will involve time-travel and will see the teens transported back to the 1990s and the golden era of the franchise. Could they face down Lord Zedd or the classic villain Rita Repulsa?
We’ll have to wait and see. Are you excited to have the Rangers heading back to the big screen?
