Overnight Deadline has confirmed that Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger has officially been cancelled at Freeform. The series wrapped its second season back in May.
In a statement the network said “We are so proud of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger and the trailblazing stories this series told. We are also grateful to our incredible talent Oliva Holt and Aubrey Joseph for bringing these beloved characters to life, and showrunner Joe Pokaski for his vision. We’d like to thank our partners at Marvel Television for a wonderful two seasons and are we are hopeful that we can find another project together.”
Tandy and Tyrone will next be seen in a crossover event in season 3 of Runaways which airs on Hulu.
With Kevin Feige ascending to the role of Chief Creative Officer and Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb supposedly exiting the company it seems that Cloak and Dagger is the latest victim in a slew of cancellations.
In recent months Marvel has ended all of its Netflix properties, announced that Agents of SHIELD is coming to an end with season seven and axed several projects, including Ghost Rider, which never entered production.
Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger stars Olivia Holt as Tandy Bowen/Dagger and Aubrey Joseph as Tyrone Johnson/Cloak, as well as Andrea Roth as Tandy’s mother Melissa Bowen, Gloria Reuben as Tyrone’s mother Adina Johnson, Miles Mussenden as Tyrone’s father Michael Johnson, Carl Lundstedt as Tandy’s partner in crime Liam, James Saito as Dr. Bernard Sanjo and J.D. Evermore as Detective Connors.
The series airs Thursday’s at 8 on FreeForm in the US.
