NETFLIX Signs First-Look Deal With Dark Horse Entertainment

Following the huge success of The Umbrella Academy, Netflix has expanding its content deal with Dark Horse Entertainment.

Variety is reporting that Netflix has just signed a first-look deal with Dark Horse Entertainment which allows the service to have first dibs on the film or TV rights for any of Dark Horse’s titles.

“We are very excited about this new arrangement with the talented people at Netflix,” said Dark Horse Founder and President Mike Richardson in a statement. “We have strong creative relationships as well as a large content library to work with and, as we have seen with our recent projects, Netflix is the perfect partner to bring our stories to fans around the world.”

“Following the success of The Umbrella Academy, we’re excited to extend our relationship with Dark Horse Comics,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content for Netflix. “The Netflix teams are already working in deep collaboration with Dark Horse to identify projects beyond the world of traditional superheroes — branching into horror, fantasy and family entertainment — that we think our members will love.”

Earlier this year Netflix and Dark Horse collaborated on a film adaptation of Polar. Directed by Jonas Åkerlund-directed the film was based on Victor Santos’ 2012 webcomic and starred Mads Mikkelsen and Vanessa Hudgens.
