There’s no hiding from the fact Venom was a massive success in 2018. Despite a mixed bag of critical reactions the film was hugely successful at the box office and proved there is an appetite to explore characters from the Spider-Man world.
Whilst Sony Pictures has a Morbius movie currently in production starring Jared Leto we know little about the studios plans beyond that. There are plenty of rumours that a Kraven the Hunter movie may be next to go in to development.
In a new interview with Variety, Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Tony Vinciquerra and Sony Television chairman Mike Hopkins revealed that the studio has “the next seven or eight years” of Spidey properties mapped out, on both film and TV. “Our television group will have its own set of characters from within that universe that we will seek to develop,” explains Vinciquerra.
Hopkins goes on to explain a little more about the timeline on these new projects saying “We’re developing a lot of Marvel-related content, and I think we’ll be out in the market very soon with something really, really big and transformational for us, because we’ve not done any shows with Marvel before, with Marvel IP. So that’s a big piece of development that we’re onto…I think we aspire to have several shows in a universe that we create that can pollinate between each other, and to working with a partner to make that happen.”
