Back in May we brought you news that Gotham producers Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon we were working on a spin-off based on a young Alfred Pennyworth. Today we have two bits of casting news for the show.
Relative newcomer Jack Bannon will be taking on the role of the young Alfred Pennyworth. Alfred, a former British SAS soldier in his 20’s, forms a security company and goes to work with a young billionaire, Thomas Wayne in 1960s London. He’s described as boyishly handsome, cheerful, charming, clever young man from London.
Bannon will be joined on the show by Our Girl star Ben Aldridge. Aldridge will be taking on the role of Thomas Wayne. He’s described as confident and extremely disciplined who meets an unlikely business partner in Alfred Pennyworth.
Pennyworth was ordered direct to series by cable network Epix. A 10-episode first season is about to go in to production a Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden just outside London.
At the time of the announcement DC/Warner describe the series as:
“Pennyworth is based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. It follows Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier who forms a security company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne, Bruce’s billionaire father, in 1960’s London. Production will begin later this year, with a series premiere slated for 2019.”
