Cable network Epix has, overnight, released this first look at actor Jack Bannon as a young Alfred Pennyworth.

Shooting is completed on the Pennyworth pilot and last week Executive Producer Danny Cannon told us all about this plans for the series.

It seems the series will most certainly give us a different interpretation of the character than those which have come before. What do you think of this first look?

“Pennyworth is based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. Alfred Pennyworth (DC Comics)

Danny Cannon offers update on PENNYWORTH

Danny Cannon was recently on hand for a Television Critics Association panel celebrating the end of Gotham. Whilst in attendance the Executive Producer was also asked about his upcoming Alfred-centric series Pennyworth.

The series has recently filmed its pilot at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden outside London and is preparing to debut on screens later in 2019.

Discussing the tone of the series Cannon said “It’s twentysomething years before Gotham, it’s a very different world. This is the DC version of 1960s London.”

“13 degrees history is different: It’s not the England we know,” he continued. “It looks and feels like, but if you look a little closer, [you ask], ‘Why is that like that? Why is that building there? What war is he talking about?'”

Cannon added that he hopes to deliver an “unhinged, R-rated” series, he also confirmed that we won’t see any classic Batman villains on the show which will instead focus on “archetypal villains and classic villains of British literature; they’re all available to us.”

“Pennyworth is based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. It follows Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier who forms a security company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne, Bruce’s billionaire father, in 1960’s London. Jason Flemyng

Jason Flemyng cast as new villain in PENNYWORTH series

The cast of Warner Bros. new Pennyworth series continues to grow. X-Men: First Class star Jason Flemyn has joined that cast in a new role.

Lord Hardwood is described as “upper-class Englishman; he’s cultured, urbane, brilliant and supremely sure of himself. His sadistic, cruel nature has a veneer of charm.”

The series is currently in production as Warner Bros. Leavesden studios here in London. A short synopsis released for the series earlier this year reads:

“Pennyworth is based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. It follows Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier who forms a security company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne, Bruce’s billionaire father, in 1960’s London.
