SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY lands $148m opening weekend worldwide

The Millennium Falcon may have made the Kessel Run in (around) 12 parsecs but that didn’t make for a great weekend for Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Going in to the weekend estimates placed the film at around $170m in North America alone. After a $14.1m gross in Thursday previews the film went on to make $35m in its opening day. Saturday brought in a further $24.6m and the three-day weekend was rounded out with $24.4m. The three-day total sits at $84.7m.
Much like the UK is was a four day holiday weekend in North America. That meant on Monday the film over performed with a further $18.2m for a four-day total of $103m.
Internationally, Solo: A Star Wars Story also failed to perform to expectations. The film brought in a disappointing  $65m having opened in virtually the entire international marketplace. Only Japan is left as the lone major market yet to see release. Leading the way was the UK with $10.3m followed by China ($10.1m), Australia ($5.0m), Germany ($4.3m), France ($3.9m), Russia ($3.6m), Spain ($2.6m), Mexico ($2.5m), Italy ($2.2m), Brazil ($1.3m), Sweden ($1.3m) and Korea ($1.1m).
After four days the total worldwide gross is now $168m off a reported $250m production budget.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is directed by Ron Howard. The film stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Emilia Clarke as Kira, Woodly Harrelson as Beckett, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. The film also stars Thandie Newton, Warwick Davis and Paul Bettany and hits cinemas May 25, 2018.
