The embargo has lifted. We now know the critics thoughts and feelings on Deadpool 2.
Whilst largely positive there are some broad criticisms of the film. Many praise the humour for tackling challenging subjects but feel there’s little to feel different from the first film. It seems the originality of Deadpool feels a little less unique the second time around.
At the time of writing Deadpool 2 holds a score of 86% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Time Out
It’s a long movie and when its star isn’t on screen and cracking wise, the boundary-pushing shocks and endless self-references wear thin. [2/5]
Washington Post
It is a fairly brilliant sendup of comic-book action movies, as well as also being an excellent example of one. [4/4]
The Wrap
Doesn’t build on the first film, choosing instead to replay the greatest hits. If you’re a fan of those hits, then you’ll enjoy this encore, but anyone who wasn’t amused by the first go-round isn’t going to hop on board for this do-over.
LA Times
The film’s impulse to profess a knowing, snarky superiority can become painfully awkward.
Rolling Stone
Despite a tendency toward elephantitis in story and scope, not to mention blatant franchise pandering, Deadpool 2 still plays like the runt of the comic-book litter. We mean that as a compliment. [3.5/4]

Variety
In almost every respect, this sequel is an improvement on its 2016 predecessor: Sharper, grosser, more narratively coherent and funnier overall, with a few welcome new additions.

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.
Ryan Reynolds will be joined in Deadpool 2 by T.J. Miller, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni and Stefan Kapičić who all reprise roles from the first film. Newcomers to the franchise include Josh Brolin as Cable and Zazie Beetz, Jack Kesy and Shioli Kutsuna. David Leitch takes over directing duties for the sequel.
