The next piece on the chess board that is Marvel Studios’ brand new X-Men film has seemingly fallen into place. Deadline has tonight revealed the Jake Schreier-directed title has landed Heartstopper heartthrob Kit Connor to play a key role.
According to the trade Connor has landed the role of Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, leader of the titular mutant group. The news is yet to be confirmed by either the studio or Connor himself. If true, Connor joins the recently announced Samara Weaving who was confirmed just last week to be taking on the role of Emma Frost in the undated film.
Connor is said to have gone through a similar process as Weaving, meeting with Schreier and studio head Kevin Feige alongside a number of other candidates. Deadline’s sources understand the studio took the decision to go with Connor as recently as last week.
Summers has been a key player in the X-Men team since its inception. In live-action the role was played by James Marsden in the 00’s trilogy with the actor also set to reprise the role in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday. The role was also played by Tye Sheridan in X-Men: Apocalypse and the ill-fated X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-creator Joanna Calo are working on the script for X-Men whilst he patients await confirmation of its release date.
