The first full trailer for Ready Player One has finally landed. Revealed during a Facebook live Q&A with author Ernie Cline yesterday w now have a much better idea about how the story will translate to film.
Discussing the process of adapting the book Cline discussed that due to the sheer volume of pop culture references in the book some aspects of the film needed to be changed. Though there are some major changes Cline hopes that fans will feel the adaptation evokes the same emotions as his original story.
During the Q&A Cline also confirmed that making the film had inspired him to work on a sequel. He gave no details on the follow up other than it is now in progress. Check out the first trailer in the player below!
The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
