‘Morbius the Living Vampire’ film in the works at Sony

File this one squarely under the ‘news nobody saw coming’ pile. THR are reporting that Sony has secretly been developing a Morbius the Living Vampire film alongside Power Rangers writers Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama.

This film joins the currently in production Venom and the upcoming Silver and Black in the world of spin-offs from the new Spider-Man universe.

Morbius was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane and first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #101, the first issue not written by Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee.

Dr Michael Morbius is a scientist who tried to cure his own rare blood disease with disastrous effects. His cure left him with a vampires thirst for blood as well as super-strength and fangs to boot. Although he is best known for battling Spider-Man the character has had his heroic moments.
