Jared Leto confirms MORBIUS reshoots

Jared Leto has confirmed that reshoots for the upcoming spin off, Morbius, have started. After apparent ‘leaks’ online, this could be an effort on Sony’s behalf to change certain details. If you are excited for the film, like I am, I would advice against hunting the leaks down. Rest-assured, we won’t be discussing the apparent leaks here.

Jared Leto talks MORBIUS in new interview

Unless you’ve been living in a cave full of bats then you’ve surely seen the first trailer for Morbius which arrived on Monday. Now, lead actor Jared Leto has been discussing the role with IGN.

“Morbius, the man, is a pretty complex character,” he says. “That’s what I was really attracted to.”

“This is somebody who has a lot of conflict in his life. He’s a guy who’s born with this horrible disease and is really a gifted person. When he was young, he was very curious about science and medicine and decided to dedicate his life to find a cure for the disease that he’s afflicted with and that others like him have, as well. But along the way, all hell breaks loose.”

Later in the interview Leto discusses the condition that Michael has been battling his whole life and how his new found powers help him to feel truly alive for the first time.

“Inside of Morbius, there’s a person who has a moral code. There’s a good person. Ultimately it’s that common struggle between good and evil. And, I guess, we’ll see what ultimately prevails. That’s what I like a lot about this movie. We’re not walking such a clear path. There’s not a clear line between what’s right and what’s wrong. There’s some gray area there. And Morbius is an imperfect person.”

“He’s not your grandfather’s superhero,” the actor continues. “He’s a deeply complex character and imperfect. And I really loved that aspect that here we’re taking someone who is like all of us, has a fair amount of challenges and issues.”

A new leaked image from MORIBUS, THE LIVING VAMPIRE trailer confirms MCU connection

Later today, around 14:00 GMT, we’ll get the first trailer for Sony Pictures Morbius, The Living Vampire. But a new leaked image seems to confirm that the film will, at least tangentially, connect to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Following the leaked image of actor Jared Leto in full makeup (check that one out here) we’ve not got a new image of the character in what appears to be prison overalls.

But it’s the background of the image which has set fans talking…

https://twitter.com/Vullein/status/1216483551396466693

We can clearly see an image of Spider-Man with graffiti calling him a murderer sprayed over the top, seemingly a reference to the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Could this confirm the news that the latest version of the Sony/Marvel deal allows Tom Holland’s wallcrawler to appear in both universes?

Whilst it doesn’t necessarily put Venom (Tom Hardy) and Morbius in the larger MCU it does, at least referentially, allow them to exist in the same world.

Jared Harris

Jared Harris talks MORBIUS

Genre fans will know Jared Harris for a number of reasons. Here in the GYCO office he is fondly remembered as David Robert Jones in the excellent FOX/Warner Bros. series Fringe.

The actor is currently filming on Sony Pictures Morbius, the latest in the so-called Spider-verse which doesn’t yet feature the Wallcrawler himself.

Harris recently sat down with Collider and discussed what attracted him to the Marvel property.

“I knew that I would get to work with Matt [Smith] again, so I was excited about that,” said Harris. “We’ve become friends. We became friends on The Crown, and we stayed in touch, so that seemed like it would be fun. And then, I’m a fan of those movies. I grew up reading comic books, so I enjoy watching those films, and it seemed like it would be fun to be a part of it. I can’t say too much about it because, as you know, they are extremely strict about keeping a lid on everything, even naming the characters’ names.”

The actor also discussed working with director Daniel Espinosa.

“I haven’t been on it that much so far, but a director’s job is to figure out a way of telling a story to an audience where you can still surprise them and it’s still fresh,” explained Harris. “That seems possible, especially being that they have a fantastic element. You need to be able to, on the one hand, have it be grounded in an emotional reality. And at the same time, you need to be able to have the license to go to extremes of the imagination and fantasy. The director is the person who’s sitting there watching it, and I’m walking that line, if you like. They’re always aware of whether or not it feels real, and whether or not it feels right, for the tone of the story.”
