Last night at SDCC saw the premier of Batman and Harley Quinn the latest DC Comics animated movie. Whilst reaction to the film has been somewhat mixed-to-positive there is some buzz around the next few films in the saga.
Warner Bros. has a habit of dropping the names of its next few titles during its premieres and this year did not disappoint. Last month a sneak peek at the back cover of Batman and Harley Quinn gave away that the next film will be an adaption of Batman: Gotham By Gaslight. That film has now been confirmed by Warner.
Following the Gaslight adaption will be a new Suicide Squad film. Their first based completely in the DCAU as Batman: Assault on Arkham was set in the work of the Arkham video games. Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay will drop in early 2018.
Following that will be Death of Superman. Said to be a more faithful adaption of the battle between Superman and Doomsday than that seen in Superman: Doomsday. That film will release later in 2018 and will be followed by a sequel, Reign of the Superman, which will release in early 2019.
For fans of the DCAU films its good to see them step away from Batman for a little while. There have been few releases outside of the Bat-universe in several years. Which film are you looking forward to most? For all our SDCC 2017 coverage click here!
Directed by Bruce Timm, Batman and Harley Quinn features the voice talents of Kevin Conroy as Batman, Melissa Rauch as Harley Quinn, Loren Lester as Nightwing, Paget Brewster as Poison Ivy and John DiMaggio as Swamp Thing, in addition to Eric Bauza, Rob Paulsen, Robin Atkin Downes, Mindy Sterling and Trevor Devall. No official release date has been announced for Batman and Harley Quinn. The film will be available to purchase on Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD this summer.
