Last night Marvel Studios held its world premiere for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Stars of the film walked the red carpet along with Marvel Studios brightest creative minds.
When Avengers and Avengers:Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon hit the red carpet however, the press had other ideas.
Talk with Whedon immediately turned to the unannounced but strongly rumoured Batgirl film. Variety were able to get a snippet of information about his casting thoughts for the role of Barbara Gordon.
“I’m not against movie stars, they’re great. But you need somebody who’s going to be just right. In a situation like this, the name [Batgirl] carries a lot of weight, so it’s not as critical.”

UPDATE: a further interview snippet has been released by The Hollywood Reporter in which Whedon discusses why he was drawn to the project. “She came up, and I started getting obsessed with how a young woman could get hardcore enough to need to put on the cowl. Like, what’s her damage?” He said.
“She didn’t have her parents killed in an alley. Who is this person, who decides — rather than being forced to by their childhood trauma – decides to pick up this life?” he continued. “How intense and driven that person is … I just couldn’t stop thinking about it.”
