Joe Manganiello has been officially confirmed as Deathstroke in Ben Affleck’s new solo Batman flick
Just last week, Ben Affleck leaked some hand held test footage from the upcoming ‘Batman’ movie that got fans excited with the first appearance of Deathstroke striding mightily into frame in full battle armour.
Being previously unknown info, it confirmed that the deadly assassin would be featuring in the upcoming blockbuster. This footage having been released, DC Entertainment president and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns had no choice but to confirm that Joe Manganiello is the man behind the mask.
Manganiello, who starred as Flash Thompson in the original ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy with Tobey Maguire, has also appeared in TV shows including ‘ER,’ ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and ‘True Blood.’
Despite being in London at the time of the leaked footage, Manganiello opted to remain silent on details of his cameo appearance.
It seems that – for the time being at least – Deathstroke won’t have a pivotal role in Affleck’s movie, however finally hitting the big screen is a real treat for DC fans. Laying a solid foundation in the DC movie universe opens up the possibility for more appearances and – if we dare to dream – a stand-alone movie.
Being such an iconic villain of the comics, Deathstroke has plenty of memorable storylines and moments to draw on for any future incarnations.
Affleck, being writer, director and star, wants to create the ‘ultimate Batman movie’ with Geoff Johns. The latest rumour has claimed that the movie will jump-start the Batman franchise with a ‘full compliment of villains,’ who are as yet uncomfirmed.
With rumours abound in regards to the plot, we can only hope for more leaked footage like this from those in the know.
As the script is still being worked on by Affleck and Geoff Johns, no official release date has been confirmed yet.
