Bloodrik #1 is published by Image Comics, written and illustrated by Andrew Krahnke.

Issue #1 is available 6th December 2023 either directly from Image Comics online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

Bloodrik is angry, confused, and starving. Unable to achieve success in his usual hunting grounds, he stomps his way into unfamiliar woods in an attempt to feed his stomach and heal his ego. What he finds will lead him on a journey of madness, violence, fire, and BLOOD!

    Review

In this introductory issue we are taken on a mysterious journey by an equally mysterious elder who introduces us to the warrior that is Bloodrik. We enter the mind of the warrior as he is wandering the open frozen planes on the hunt for his next meal, but this hunt isn’t going how it normally goes for all is quiet and you could well say a little too quiet as Bloodrik is struggling to find an single animal to fill his empty stomach. A weary figure Bloodrik must soldier on through the thick snow to find his next meal before hunger kicks in, but finding anything in this vast frozen expanse and his mind begins to drift.

The frozen planes are a lonely place to be and a lonely warrior with just his mind for company is a dangerous person indeed, but is he a danger to others or just himself?

I quite liked the tone of this book, a bit of a fear change to what I’m used to reading but I found it a good read all the same, it’s definitely a foundation builder laying down the bases of the story for the next two issues.

Andrew Krahnke has done a great job in creating a mysterious character in Bloodrik, I am intrigued to find out more of this character who obviously has a hidden past but I’m unsure at this point if we are looking at a hero or a villain or even a mixture of the two either way it will be interesting to see what comes next.

Andrew Krahnke also takes the reins for the illustrations of the comic and does a good job with the style of it, I like the simplicity and thought it made it feel more powerful and certainly had an impact and hopefully this will continue for the remainder of the series.

    Verdict

An interesting and promising introduction to a new character and series, I feel this series h the potential to be something really good and I look forward to see what is in store in the remaining two issues.
