DC/RWBY #2 is published by DC Comics and written by Marguerite Bennett. Artwork and cover art (left) are by Megan Hetrick and colours by Marissa Louise. Letters are by Morgan Martinez.

DC/RWBY #2 is available from today, in print and on digital, where all good comic books are sold.

    Synopsis

The world of Remnant comes crashing into the DCU! Grimm are running amok around Gotham, and Batman’s on the hunt to find whoever brought these mysterious monsters to his city. But as the trail goes cold, the Dark Knight finds himself face-to-face with none other than Team RWBY! What other effects are taking hold around our world with Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang here, and what does it mean for the future of the DCU?! Marguerite Bennett returns to RWBY with Meghan Hetrick and Soo Lee for an epic tale of adventure spanning every corner of the DC Universe!

    Review

DC/RWBY #2 takes what was great about the first issue and multiples it by 100. Seeing the characters of RWBY interact with the likes of Alfred and Nightwing is such a blast. It’s the highlight of the entire issue. There’s a playfullness to it all which allows the conflicting and attracting personalities to collide fully. The characters all develop this energetic dynamic that is ripe with banter, a sprinkle of hostility, and this underlying frustration. Nobody knows what is happening or why, but the solution will only be found if everyone works together… And it seems like it’s somewhat tough to trust these heroes running aroung in flashy outfits. Oh, the irony.

The arrival of RWBY also causes quite the stir among Gotham’s heroes. We’re so used to seeing Batman as a lone wolf figure. Yes, he has his sidekicks, but there is always this pressure for Bruce to shoulder the entire burden. With the introduction of RWBY, who very much feel like a close-knit team in comparison, there’s an immediate conflict of personalities and characters. For Bruce, it’ll be interesting to see how the girls change his perspective on certain things as he prepares for the coming calamity.

While there is plenty of fun to be had, especially when Alfred is involved, there is a direness to the situation. The Grimm are obviously causing problems for Gotham, but there is so much more happening. The entire nature of Gotham is changing and it’s gradually escalating. This issue really dives into the consequences and the alarming dilemma that our heroes are about to confront. Not only does it introduce an incredibly potent mix of evil, it also explores the world of Remnant. For those who are new to RWBY, this issue provides a lot of details about the girls’ world and what that means for our earthly heroes.

The last few pages of this issue pushes this limited series in a haunting and rather scary direction. There is definitely a focus on laying down the rules of this world, but the looming threat is teased brilliantly. Issue #3 is certainly going to be interesting.

    Verdict

DC/RWBY #2 is a fantastic continuation that opens up the world to an incredibly scary reality. The colliding worlds continue to provide plenty of laughs and brilliant interactions while also introducing us to bizarre consequences that will have major ramificactions for both Gotham and Remnant. This second issue does an outstanding job at further exploring these unique worlds, but it’s safe to say that the next issue will be a game changer…
