Batman Beyond the White Knight #8 is published by DC Comics. The book is written and illustrated by Sean Murphy with colours by Dave Stewart. Cover art also comes from Sean Murphy.

Batman Beyond the White Knight #8 is available now, in print and on digital, where all good comic books are sold.

    Synopsis

IT ALL ENDS HERE! With the future of Gotham City at stake, Bruce Wayne leads an attack on the Wayne-Powers building to take down Blight and his minions once and for all. And with the new Batman, the Robins, and GCPD’s Barbara Gordon at his side, anything seems possible. But not all endings will be happy: Bruce is still an escaped felon, and the FBI is hot on his tail. Could this be the end of Batman? Not if the mysterious Agent Prince has anything to say about it!

    Review

Now that is how you do a finale…

It’s amazing to think that this has been our third visit to the White Knight universe. All under the watchful eye of creator, writer and artist Sean Murphy. With each new endeavour Murphy has stepped up his game. Both in terms of the scale of storytelling, but also in just how much he can push the envelope of this already striking art style.

This month we reach the epic conclusion of Beyond the White Night as Murphy ties up loose ends. I genuinely felt this would be our last visit to White Knight. Whilst the ideas seem endless, with Murphy writing and drawing every issue it has to be a huge undertaking. But surprisingly, more so than in previous series, Murphy leaves us with all of the setup for a fourth chapter in the story.

Before we get to that there’s the little matter of the entire Bat-Family coming together to defeat Derek Powers. The scale has never been bigger. But Murphy, now so used to one-upping himself, absolutely rises to the challenge. Despite the giant ensemble cast there’s both room and time for each to have a moment in the sun. Whilst the lions share of the narrative has to go to Bruce, Terry and Jack, there’s still moments for the supporting cast to make their presence felt.

As for our trio of leads. Murphy is able to bring each story to a satisfying ending. Whilst there’s plenty more story for each of them. When we close out issue #8 there’s no denying that it could also act as a gratifying end to each of their stories.

The consistency in Beyond the White Knight is awe inspiring. The story may had ebbed and flowed through eight issues, but it’s never fallen short of rewarding. Meanwhile its art work has been intense, scintillating and incredibly dynamic at every turn. I genuinely don’t know how Murphy does it.

    Verdict

The perfect finale. With each new instalment in the White Knight universe Murphy steps up his game. The final issue of Beyond the White Knight is truly blockbuster material. A huge-scale season finale which ties up all the loose ends and sets up a brilliant next chapter in World’s Finest.
